Tattoo Aftercare Guide: How to Protect Your New Work of Art
The beauty and longevity of a tattoo depend not only on the artist's hand, but also (and especially) on how you care for it in the first few weeks. Follow these steps carefully to ensure perfect healing.
1. The First Few Hours
-
Removing the protection: Remove the protective film applied in the studio approximately 3-4 hours after the tattoo is done.
2. The Cleaning and Moisturizing Routine
For about two weeks, follow this procedure daily:
-
Washing: Wash the affected area with lukewarm water and a mild neutral soap.
-
Drying: Do not rub. Pat gently with a clean cloth until completely dry.
-
Cream: Apply a thin layer of specific cream, massaging carefully and gently. Repeat the process 3-4 times a day.
3. Clothing and Hygiene
Throughout the healing process, it is essential to pay attention to what comes into contact with your skin:
-
Fabrics: Wear only cotton garments. Avoid tight clothing that may constrict the affected area.
-
What to avoid: Do not wear lint-shedding garments or synthetic fibers (wool, fleece, acrylic, etc.) in direct contact with the tattoo.
-
External contact: Never touch the tattoo with dirty hands. Be very careful with dust, pet hair, excessive sweat, and accidental contact with people or objects.
4. What to Absolutely Avoid
Until complete healing, keep the tattoo away from:
-
Pools, saunas, and spas.
-
Sea and sand.
-
Prolonged sun exposure.
-
Boiling water or prolonged immersion (opt for a quick shower).
Important: Never remove any scabs or peeling skin that may form. Let them absorb naturally through constant hydration with the cream.
